SIMULTANEOUS CONNECTION
A group exhibition held during the month of May, 2015 at The Oxbow Gallery in Northampton, MA. This exhibition of wall sculptures created by eight New England sculptors, curated by Deborra Stewart-Pettengill, was composed of pieces, which evoke visual dialogue and structural connection. Each of artists considers the gallery wall an integral element in her or his work. Like traditional drawing on paper some of the artists draw in space through the use of line; whether wire, wood or string, these lines might suggest mass, challenge perception of space, describe texture or map an abstract landscape. In contrast, we also pursue shape-based work, compact and material-dense, mounted on the wall. Each artist shares an interest in the formal language of abstraction and a deliberate use of material. The content of our works separate undeniably one from another, yet in conversation the pieces reflect and reveal new relationships within individual works, as well as in response to the collective dynamic. Participating artists include William Brayton, Brenda Garand, Carol Keller, Cathy Osman, Tim Segar, Joe Smith, Deborra Stewart-Pettengill, and Erica Wurtz.
