2020 CHINE-COLLE MONOPRINTS AND COLLAGES
Chine-collé is a printmaking technique that uses a printing press to simultaneously print an image and adhere a thin piece of paper (such as Japanese tissue, kozo, or gampi) onto a thicker backing sheet. These pieces were created by layering shapes of hand painted Kitakata paper to build a composition.
Created during the early months of the Covid pandemic, These chine-colle` monoprints and collages served as meditations on events which captured and enmeshed our daily lives. Both Covid and Black Lives Matter movement influenced these meditations. Overall, these abstract studies investigate the challenge of stabilizing turbulence in a time of volatility.
